Sorin Ionescu

I’m a community organizer, systems thinker, and activist working to advance high-impact, compassion-driven change. I currently lead Umoja Greenlands, a community-led initiative in East Africa focused on water security, plant-based resilience, and regenerative development through locally grounded Effective Altruism.

My background spans political science, philosophy, disaster resilience, and NGO leadership. I’ve worked with organizations including the Coalition for a Plant-Based Transition, Vegan Option Canada, Algosphere Alliance, Organisation for the Prevention of Intense Suffering, and Animal Rebellion Turtle Island, always with a focus on ethical systems transformation and post-growth futures.

I also contributed to The Consilience Project, working on metacrisis solutions, complexity, and long-term institutional reform.

My current work brings together Effective Altruism, suffering-focused ethics, Holacracy, and community-based resilience, with the goal of growing EA's reach and relevance in underserved regions.

Let’s connect if you’re working on food systems, ethical outreach, decentralized organizing, or global equity in EA.
