Introducing Umoja Greenlands’ Effective Altruism Orientation for East Africa

Hello friends,
I'm excited to share that at Umoja Greenlands, we’ve launched a new Effective Altruism Orientation designed to support community leaders and changemakers across East Africa in applying EA principles to real-world challenges — especially those tied to development, poverty, food systems, and long-term resilience.
Why this matters:
In our region, the need is massive — but so is the potential. By rooting our actions in evidence, compassion, and strategic thinking, we can maximize the good we do locally while contributing to global well-being. This orientation is meant to provide a clear, accessible, and culturally grounded starting point for individuals and teams who want to take EA seriously in African contexts.
Explore the orientation here:

We’re also building a regional EA community — starting in East Africa — and would love to connect with others across the continent who are exploring similar work or want to learn with us.

If you’re interested in collaborating, sharing feedback, or just saying hello, feel free to reply here or message me directly. We’re especially open to partnerships around training, mentorship, and grassroots leadership development.
In solidarity and hope,
