How do your EA groups choose their directors?

Hi everyone!

I’m curious about how national EA groups choose their directors or main coordinators. Is the process democratic? Random? Based on friendships or trust networks? I imagine there’s a lot of variation between countries, and I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Personally, I’d lean toward a democratic system especially when the group is large (for example, our first and last national meeting had around 100 people). To me, it seems fair that whoever represents the group should be chosen with the group’s agreement.

I’m really interested to learn how this works in your contexts!

The board members of EA Germany are elected by the members (over 100) of the organization. The board is responsible for hiring the director.

Thank you very much for your response. I think it’s a great system. In my country (Chile), the position of director is not remunerated, but the election is not democratic. I don’t think that’s always a bad thing (sometimes it can bring in the most committed members) but since I studied law, I personally lean toward a fully democratic option on principle. I hope more EA members will share their experiences.
