Which Animal Charities Should ACE Be Evaluating?

By Animal Charity Evaluators, Vince Mak 🔸 @ 2026-03-06T16:46 (+74)

Animal Charity Evaluators is accepting applications for our upcoming evaluation cycle until April 3, 2026! Are there organizations doing highly cost-effective work for animals that we might be overlooking? If you're aware of animal charities that have the potential to be competitive with our current recommended charities, we'd love to hear about them and encourage them to apply. We especially welcome suggestions that have limited visibility in the effective animal advocacy space.

ACE evaluates charities that demonstrate meaningful, evidence-based progress in improving animal welfare. Strong candidates have a track record of measuring outcomes and a credible theory of change linking their work to impact for animals. Charities earlier in their development and/or that use higher-risk “hits-based” interventions may be better suited for our Movement Grants program.

For a list of organizations we've recently evaluated, see here. Please note that charities must opt into being evaluated, so the absence of an organization from this list doesn't reflect our assessment of their work. Charities may not have participated in the past for many reasons, including limited capacity, being in an exploratory or testing phase, or not having an immediate need for additional funding.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. The more high-quality charities we have the opportunity to evaluate, the better our recommendations serve animals.

I'm guessing this is on your radar, but I think it's worth checking basically every Coefficient Giving, Navigation Fund and EA Animal Welfare Fund grantee over the last ~2 years.

You could focus on those that received at least $X (e.g. $100K) if you're looking to filter quickly, but we should also be looking to get good orgs to consider more ambitious plans.
