Job: Executive Director of CEEALAR (EA Hotel)

TL;DR: We're hiring an Executive Director to lead CEEALAR through its most ambitious phase yet. Beyond running our existing Blackpool hotel, you'll plan and spearhead our expansion into London, including its fundraising and staffing. This is a project that is designed to 10-20x our impact. We need someone who can be both a reliable custodian of what exists and a driving leader of what comes next. Full-time, £40,000-£50,000 (with significantly more contingent on successfully fundraising and expanding into London), UK-based (Skilled Worker visa available), rolling applications until 31st August 2026.

We are looking for a highly dynamic and strategic individual to lead CEEALAR's growth. There is considerable flexibility for the candidate to shape the role according to their own strengths and preferences. We envisage this being a full-time role. As our current operations are in Blackpool, we expect a short (1-3 month) stint of living and working on-site in Blackpool to get detailed knowledge of the inner workings of the organization. If a grant for a London expansion is approved, we expect the location to shift significantly toward London, including moving to London (with a few days spent in Blackpool each month).

What you'll do

• Planning and spearheading CEEALAR's expansion to London, a new location intended to 10-20x our impact, including leading its fundraising and staffing from the ground up.
• Acting as custodian of our existing Blackpool hotel while building and leading the new London operation: developing and directing CEEALAR's overall strategy and growth, including impact measurement.
• Overseeing finances across both sites, including developing budgets, improving our accounting system, running payroll, and preparing annual reports for the Charity Commission.
• Securing funding for the charity, including writing grant applications and diversifying our funding streams, with the London expansion as a central fundraising priority.
• Acting as spokesperson for the charity, including writing articles about CEEALAR and representing it at wider EA events.
• Leading our small and growing team, including line managing our Operations and Community Managers, interacting with the Board of Trustees, and overseeing recruitment across both locations.
• Ensuring CEEALAR adheres to all laws and regulations, for example, HR, hospitality, and charity law.

Person specification

We recognise that we are asking for a diversity of competencies and encourage people who have even one of the concrete skills to apply. The job can be somewhat adapted to the skills of the successful candidate.

• A strong understanding of, and passion for, CEEALAR's mission, as well as for effective altruism more broadly.
• 3+ years of relevant experience (in the form, please note how your experience is relevant to the role).
• Demonstrated ability to fundraise, ideally both within EA circles and with UK grantors, a core requirement given the scale of the London raise.
• A strong strategic mind, with the ability to scope, plan, and deliver a major expansion while running day-to-day operations across sites.
• A good team leader, able to motivate and develop others, and to build a new team from scratch.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to problem-solve and navigate challenges with persistence and positivity.
• Experience of any of the following is desirable. Alternatively, the proven ability to learn these types of competencies quickly would be valuable:
  • Pre-opening experience (launching a new hotel, venue, or site)
  • Budgeting and accounting
  • Leading a small and growing organisation in the charity/impact space
  • Fundraising
  • Law and governance in the charity sector
  • Hospitality management

Compensation and benefits

• A salary of £40,000–£50,000 (with more (including much more) potentially available after the first successful fundraising), pro rata, depending on experience. For exceptional candidates, further negotiation is possible.
• 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year.
