Are there standout EA digital nomad hubs?

E.g. with some combination of
- A few other EAs in the area
- Relatively low cost of living
- Relatively permissive visa/residency system
- Relatively high quality of life
- Other relevant perks

Sadly not. Would love to see someone start a project to fix this though!

For anyone looking for these qualities, EA Serbia has an office and a great community! You can reach out to @Dušan D. Nešić (Dushan) with any questions! :)

Do you know broadly what getting visas is like?
Dušan D. Nešić (Dushan) @ 2024-10-14T19:10 (+8)
Sorry, was traveling and only saw this now (thanks Gergo)! Generally many places are visa free to us, and if you have Schengen, UK or US visa valid (and have actually traveled to those places at least once on that visa) you can come visa free to Serbia. Visa is also generally good to get, but embassies don't exist in all countries so sometimes you have to ship your passport (from Philippines to Indonesia for example), so do plan accordingly. Happy to help write an invitation letter, but more important for the visa is having booked accommodation, there's cheap hostels walking distance from the office, I'm happy to send links.

How easy is it to find air conditioning in Serbia? I can deal with pretty low temperatures by putting on 500 layers, but scorching summer temperatures are too much for me (though it would be cool if enough people's mileage vary to get a hub :)

ACs are ubiquitous and our office has two, we're not like EU countries ;)
gergo @ 2024-10-03T08:40 (+2)
I don't but it's supposedly much easier than to EU member countries

Buenos Aires scores well on most of these dimensions. The main exception is cost of living, which has gone up a lot over the past six months or so, albeit from a low baseline. I’d say currently the city is roughly as expensive as Madrid.
I’d be happy to help out EAs who are considering visiting or relocating here. Earlier this year, I moved back to BA permanently (after being nomadic for many years) and I think it would be pretty cool if the city became an EA digital nomad hub.

Berlin!
Arepo @ 2024-10-04T03:43 (+3)
Is there a way to live low-cost in Berlin, short of extreme deprivation?
timfarkas @ 2024-10-04T10:18 (+6)
I mean low-cost is always relative, it definitely won't be as cheap as, let's say, some Eastern European cities, or Bangkok. But still, relative to most Western capitals, the overall cost of living in Berlin is quite low, especially if you rarely eat out. Rent is the only thing that's become pretty high in recent years but if you are lucky/utilize some connections you still might be able to find something reasonably priced. (I know several people that pay like 400-500€ a month for a room in a shared flat.)
