In 2024[1] GiveWell raised $415 million - $108 million from Open Philanthropy, and $307 million from other donors. (Blog post, full report). In 2023[2] this number was $355 million - $100 million from Open Philanthropy, and $255 million from other donors.

This was driven by an increase in $1 million+ sized donations:

Coming from a relatively concentrated base of large donors:

The non-OP amount raised was below the 25th percentile forecast

In their post on 10th April 2023, GiveWell forecast the amount they expected to raise in 2024, albeit with wide confidence intervals, and stated that their 25th percentile estimate for total funds raised was $385 million, and 25th percentile estimate for funds raised outside of Open Philanthropy was $345 million.

Regarding Open Philanthropy, the April 2023 post states that they "tentatively plans to give $250 million in 2023", however Open Philanthropy gave a grant of $300 million to cover 2023-2025, to be split however GiveWell saw fit, and it used $100 million of that grant in 2023, and realised another $100 million of that grant in 2024[3].

Open Philanthropy made a separate $8.2 million donation in 2024 to make up the $108 million total. This is separate from the $300 million total commitment, and the remaining $100 million will be realised in 2025 (page 8 of the full report)
