Faunalytics’ Funding Gap of $370,000
By JLRiedi @ 2025-11-17T18:07 (+17)
TL;DR:
- Faunalytics has an organizational funding gap of $370,000 for our 2025 budget.
- This funding is critical for our organizational stability, covering all remaining 2025 activities (including approximately $60k in final research projects) and addressing a shortfall in high-impact research already delivered this year.
- Securing this "Stability Gap" is the prerequisite for launching our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.
- Funding beyond this gap will be directed to our “Growth Gap”: conducting new original research projects.

About Faunalytics
For over 25 years, Faunalytics’ mission has been to empower animal advocates with research, insights, and strategies that maximize their effectiveness to end animal suffering. We enable evidence-based advocacy through three main program areas:
- Original Research: Faunalytics now conducts 10 to 12 original research studies each year that are likely to have a high impact on animals. We identify our research projects through a multi-stage prioritization process, which includes gathering input from advocates and topic experts to identify knowledge gaps and conducting assessments to verify the potential impact.
- Research Library: We host the world’s largest open-access collection of animal advocacy research. By curating 6,000+ research summaries, blogs, report translations for impactful regions, and visualizations such as infographics and videos, we ensure that advocates can access the research needed to make their efforts more effective.
- Research Support: Beyond providing research, we ensure advocates have the necessary support to apply research to their work. We’ve directly advised over 2,000 advocates through our Office Hours and Research Ambassador project.
Why Research?
Faunalytics' work is important because research and data empower animal protection organizations to make informed decisions and allocate their limited resources effectively. Historically, there has been a limited capacity for research within the advocacy movement, and the issue remains neglected due to the scarcity of funding for farmed animals. Faunalytics addresses this gap by conducting research and curating shared resources, as well as providing support to build capacity within organizations.
Our 2024 study, Research And Data As Tools In Advocates’ Decision-Making, found that advocates report that evidence-based framing increases their legitimacy and ability to influence key institutions. You can learn more about how we plan to support advocates in applying research to their work in our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.
Faunalytics’ work informs hundreds of thousands of viewers each year, but our impact can’t be condensed into quantitative outputs alone. Our aim isn’t just to increase the number of original research studies or data sets available to the movement, but to focus on maximizing the impact of each project. Determining the impact of Faunalytics’ work per dollar invested is complex since research and capacity-building are indirect aspects of advocacy. Research is more than just study design, data analysis, and reporting; it also includes the time spent following up with advocates and organizations to ensure they understand the findings and utilize them effectively. In fact, Animal Charity Evaluators’ review of Faunalytics backs up the importance of research.
Our 2025 Stability Funding Gap: $370,000
As of today (November 17, 2025), we have a remaining funding gap of $370,000 USD to close our 2025 budget. This marginal funding will be used to:
- Complete 2025 Activities: Fund the completion of our final 2025 research projects, including Public Perceptions of Standard U.S. Farming Practices and Contextual Advocacy for Food Systems in the Global South ($60,384).
- Cover Unfunded Program Costs: Cover the remaining costs associated with high-impact research we completed and delivered in 2025, but for which we did not secure specific project funding.
- Ensure Team Stability: Retain our specialized team of 12 researchers, analysts, and support staff, allowing us to enter 2026 financially healthy and ready to execute our long-term strategy.
Closing this "Stability Gap" is the most critical action to prevent organizational contraction and protect our future impact. It is the necessary foundation for our "Growth Gap."
Room for More Funding (Our "Growth Gap")
Should we raise funds beyond our $370,000 stability need, every additional dollar will be directed as growth capital to accelerate our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan and Room For More Funding initiatives.
