Cultured meat and plant-based meat technology promises to provide people with cheap, sustainable alternatives to meat, thus making it much easier for people to reduce their consumption of animal products. The animal rights movement should be fully behind this drive to create alternatives to meat, and should heavily promote these products as they come to market, as they could be some of the most effective ways of reducing the suffering of animals in industrial agriculture. There are many reasons to be optimistic, but key concerns that remain include how we market these products to consumers, and how we challenge the biases that people currently have about vegetarian foods.
