The Quiet Pull Towards Resonance: Jumping into EA
By David Bravo @ 2025-05-14T12:17 (+5)
This post is intended for those who, like me before taking the step to attend my first EAG event, felt a deep resonance with EA’s values and mission—but never quite got involved. It’s for the eternal lurkers, the not-yet-first-timers.
It can also be for those whose internal resistance has often outweighed the pull of connection. For those who sometimes feel they are the only thing standing between themselves and the life they want to live.
This is both an exploration and an invitation:
To listen to your deep vision and intuition.
To spark a shift from extrinsic motivation to intrinsic motivation.
Begin with Presence
Pause for a moment.
Feel the bottoms of your feet if you’re sitting or standing. Feel the support beneath your body. Take a few deep breaths and feel the rise and fall of your chest.
Take a minute to recall a moment in which you felt awe. Perhaps under a dark starry night, during a breathtaking sunset, while listening to a beautiful piece of music, or standing before a monumental sight. Let yourself feel that sensation viscerally. Feel this connection—with something perceived to be beautiful, much larger than you. How this humbled you, yet made you alive and expansive.
This is an energy to be fully alive. Beneath all our distractions, there is something within each of us that desperately longs to live fully. That wants to love, to experience, to act in alignment with who we truly are.
You don’t have to feel it clearly right now. Just trust that you have felt awe before. That there is something in you yearning to express itself. And that you know what resonance feels like when it happens.
Aliveness as a Compass
Now admit that there are actions, people and ideas that draw you toward that resonance. That some things make you say “Hell yes” or “This feels right—I want more of this”.
And admit, too, that there are some forces—habits, stories, fears—that pull you away from it. That cause contraction, confusion, or inertia.
That resistance isn’t your fault. It’s shaped by countless conditions and aeons of history. But resistance doesn’t define you. It is just another sensation, accepted by the body and awareness as they experience it. As Adi Da once said, “The self is just like this clenched fist. Relax the fist and there is nothing inside... We are never at any moment in the dilemma we fear ourselves to be.”
The stories that keep you stuck can gently be reframed—either in a way that is conducive to resonance, or in a way that pulls you away from it.
Explore what makes you come alive. What gives you that quiet, unmistakable “yes”.
And let that—not obligation or external pressure—be your principle for action. It’s so common to live by “shoulds” or “musts”, and so rare to listen deeply to what energises us.
If you’re on this forum, it’s because something in EA resonates with you. Maybe it’s the commitment to doing good, to truth, to honesty, or to living with compassion. Whatever it is, there’s a part of you that says “This feels right—I want more of this”.
Try treating that resonance as your starting point. Let advice, frameworks and career guides be tools—extremely helpful for some, and not at all for others. Use them in service of your internal fire, not in place of it.
And if what I’m saying doesn’t feel right to you it, ditch it!
But maybe, just maybe, if you listen to your own intuition and gently allow the sense of external compulsion to be there without acting on it, you’ll discover something you really want to do. Something that, when recognised in its depth and force, nullifies any worry or hesitation.
EAG as a Chance for Resonance
I resisted getting involved in EA for a long time. I just kept postponing taking the leap, focusing too much on the next task or obligation to attend to.
But I finally attended my first EAG(x) event, and interacted with tons of amazing people. I resonated with all the vibrant energy of the community. And this has helped me realise that “Hell yes—I want more of this”. That I want to live in alignment with all these values and mission. And that most of my earlier reluctance had been self-obstruction and wasted motion.
EAG events are an opportunity to reconnect with that resonance. But they’re just temporary. This resonance—if you feel it, which you might not—will again get obscured by the noise and humdrum of everyday life.
So if this resonance feels worth pursuing, try to find ways to remember it throughout the day. Create routines to evoke it regularly. Build simple practises to stay in touch with what lights you up.
And hopefully you will progressively open up to this resonance and choose more of the actions that align you with it.
Summary
If you’ve ever felt resonance with EA—follow that. Let it be your guide. Even if just a little.
And progressively, let it permeate your life choices.
Because your resonance matters. It’s your life speaking.
Some posts of resonance
I link a few Substack posts that made me feel resonance and express much more beautifully what I am trying to convey. They may or may not resonate with you—resonance can be deeply personal and unpredictable. But if they do, they can point you towards your alignment.
