Edit: I found a tutee and I’m no longer offering this.
Hi everyone! I’m excited to offer free, personalized tutoring to one motivated learner.
Why: I’d like to gain hands-on experience as a tutor in a low-commitment environment and deepen my own understanding of these topics—I will benefit from the preparing-to-teach-effect.
Subjects offered (roughly ordered by own expertise)
Beyond standard university level
- Forecasting | Focus on theory or practice (e.g., doing a joint forecasting competitions). Good reference: Forecasting: Principles and Practice. More theory-oriented options will draw on my own research. An okay-ish textbook for practice is Forecasting: Principles and Practice.
- Econometrics and causal inference | Based on Mastering Metrics, Causal inference in Statistics and others.
University level
- Decision Theory, Game Theory, Microeconomics | Closely linked; best studied sequentially in this order. Based on: An Introduction to decision theory, An Introduction to Game Theory, Intermediate Microeconomics
- International relations | Based on William Spaniel’s YouTube course.
- Macroeconomics | Based on the book with the same name by Olivier Blanchard. There are plenty of solid Macroeconomics books.
- Public choice Theory
Not usually taught at university
- Mathematical problem solving | Based on The Art and Craft of Problem Solving.
- Cryptocurrencies | based on the Brilliant.org-course with the same name, so you might as well just do that.

- How to do research | Based on The Craft of Research and other sources.
Pre-university or first semester level

- Data Science in R
- Algorithms and Data Structures

Format: One-on-one online meetings, biweekly or once a week, with independent study between sessions. I function as a coach—real learning happens by thinking and working through problems yourself.
Language: German, English.
Duration: Flexible—whatever suits you!
About me: I work as a predoctoral researcher at the Chair for General Economics, Macroeconomics, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, and currently teach introductory Macroeconomics and Econometrics. My main research interest is forecasting—specifically, how incentives (like evaluation methods) shape reported predictions. Find my articles on Google Scholar and more info on my website.
About you: You want to learn—whether for an exam, your career, or pure curiosity—and believe that tutoring can help you learn more efficiently.
Send me a private message (on the forum) with:
- What you want to achieve (exam, job, interest, …)
- Which subject(s) you’d like to work on
I look forward to hearing from you!
Niklas
