[Launch post of the funding circle here for those who want a bit more context]
The Strategic Animal Funding Circle (a new group of donors supporting high-impact farmed animal advocacy) is running its second round of grantmaking.
You can see the full Request for Proposals and application guidance here. The deadline to apply is March 10th. I'll share some information below on what kinds of groups might be a good fit (for context, we had approx. 150 applicants last round and funded 11 groups).
If there are any donors (either currently giving or willing to give upwards of $100-250k to farmed animals per year) interested in joining, feel free to email me at jozden[at]mobius.life. We expect the funding circle will expose donors to more high-impact opportunities, create the space for important discussions and reduce vetting inefficiencies.
Notes on the kinds of groups we are looking for, from our RFP:
Eligibility Criteria:
The intervention is focused on improving outcomes in farmed animal welfare or protection which could include reducing the suffering of farmed animals, promoting the development of alternative proteins or reducing the consumption of animal products.
The intervention can be service delivery, policy work, or any other intervention type that delivers measurable impact in improving animal welfare outcomes.
You are a registered not-for-profit entity or are partnering with one as a fiscal agent.
Has the potential and willingness to scale; and
Preference is given towards organizations with less than 4 years of operating history or less than 500k USD in annual budget.
Areas we funded in our last round
Whilst it is not guaranteed that donors will want to fund in the same areas, donors supported these focus areas in our last round:
- Corporate campaigns for cage-free and broiler welfare
- Policy advocacy for tractable animal welfare improvements
- Certifier-focused advocacy
- Legal advocacy
- Insect welfare research
- Neglected species such as fish or shrimp
- Although, due to the Farmed Animal Funders Aquatic Animal Funding circle, we request that all aquatic animal-related applications do not apply to us. Instead, apply to the Farmed Animal Funders circle and they will share your information with us, if you consent, to save you from applying twice.
Areas we are open to funding
- Wild Animal Welfare Research or Interventions
- Genetic/Pain Research
Areas we are not considering this round
Donors in the funding circle are not interested in funding the following categories:
- Farm Transitions
- Individual diet change
- Sanctuaries or direct care of animals
