Giving What We Can🔸 @ 2026-07-14T15:23 (+2)
Giving What We Can is hiring a Grants & Operations Associate!
Last year, with ~1 FTE of grants capacity, we processed over $50M in grants to highly effective charities - and that volume is set to grow. We're looking for an exceptional operator to join our operations team: running our grant cycles, keeping day-to-day operations humming, and building the systems that will scale us to the next order of magnitude.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Run high-stakes processes without errors and catch problems before they happen
- Are highly agentic - you know when speed matters more and when care does
- Communicate clearly across internal notes, grantee comms, and major donor messages
- Learn fast and build systems, and are excited by what AI now makes possible
- Are deeply motivated by GWWC's mission
Grants/compliance experience, multi-entity or multi-currency exposure, and comfort with tools like Airtable or Zapier are a bonus. 2–5 years of operations experience is preferred but not required.

Updated MEL services from The Mission Motor
MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) is a system of tools that help organizations track whether their work is making the difference they want it to, and improve based on what they find out.
Based on the findings from our needs assessment and the input from supported partner organizations, The Mission Motor redesigned its MEL service package. The services remain free for animal advocacy organizations.
- MEL System Assessment: review your current MEL system across 13 key areas, from theory of change and data systems to leadership buy-in and staff skills. With this assessment, you can better determine the most important MEL areas to work on.
- MEL System Support: A dedicated advisor works alongside your team to design, improve, and implement your MEL system.
- Program design: needs assessment, stakeholder analysis, theory of change, etc.
- Program Evaluation: either done with direct support from TMM or TMM can help you find a suitable external (paid) evaluator.
- Time-limited, specific MEL questions: just email us, and we'll get back to you.
For more information and the application form, see our services page, or send an email to support@themissionmotor.org if you have questions.

The Good Food Institute Organisation Updates:
GFI Europe Mid-Year Impact Update
GFI Europe recently published its 2026 Mid-Year Impact Update, highlighting progress across policy, science, and industry during the first half of the year. The update covers work to generate evidence for policymakers, connect researchers and companies to solve technical bottlenecks, and support businesses as they scale alternative proteins across Europe.
Food biomanufacturing and national security
GFI and the National Defense Industrial Association's Emerging Technologies Institute published a new research brief examining the national security implications of food biomanufacturing. The brief was launched at a Washington, D.C. convening attended by food biomanufacturing companies and representatives from 11 U.S. federal offices, followed by meetings with congressional offices.
The report argues that food biomanufacturing can strengthen domestic supply chains, reduce dependence on vulnerable agricultural inputs, and position alternative proteins within broader U.S. biotechnology and manufacturing priorities.
Open-access roadmap for cultivated seafood research
GFI published Developing Continuous Cell Lines for Cultivated Seafood, a new technical guide to help researchers establish continuous cell lines for fish and crustaceans. Developed with scientists from across the field, the guide brings together practical recommendations and troubleshooting advice in a single open-access resource.
Reliable cell lines remain a key technical bottleneck for cultivated seafood. By making this knowledge openly available, GFI aims to reduce duplicated effort and lower barriers for new researchers entering the field.
First novel mycoprotein authorised in the EU
The European Commission has authorised The Protein Brewery's Fermotein under the EU Novel Food Regulation, making it the first newly authorised mycoprotein that can now be sold across all 27 EU Member States.
This is an important milestone for alternative proteins in Europe and may help establish regulatory precedent for future mycoprotein applications.
We’re hiring:
Lead SciTech Specialist, GFI APAC (Remote - Korea) – Apply by 19 July 2026
Sector Development Strategist, GFI APAC (APAC Region) – No deadline – applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Thanks for reading.

From Faunalytics:
This month we launched the Faunalytics Lens, a free AI research assistant grounded entirely in our Research Library of more than 6,000 entries. Ask it any question about animal advocacy and it returns a clear, plain-language answer with citations linking straight back to the source. Be sure to check out the companion blog, which explains the project in depth! Special thanks to Kyle Behrend for his support in development, and to Stray Dog Institute for facilitating this process.
The Multi-Generational Kitchen
Our latest study, The Multi-Generational Kitchen: How To Market Plant-Based Eating To Indian Gen Z Households, surveyed 801 Gen Z adults in India to understand household food dynamics, consumer segments, and the barriers standing between motivated young people and plant-based eating. The data offers actionable guidance for advocates, marketers, and alternative protein companies operating in one of the world’s most important food markets.
Faunalytics’ 2026 Mid-Year Report
The first half of 2026 has been one of the most productive stretches in Faunalytics’ history, and our new mid-year review lays it all out. From globally focused original research spanning India and the Global South, to new Tactics In Practice editions on humane education and corporate outreach, to case studies that trace exactly how our research shapes advocacy strategy on the ground, we’ve been building resources that help advocates turn evidence into impact. Read the full review to see what we’ve accomplished together and what’s coming next.
Mark your calendar for Fauna Connections, our fifth annual symposium — a free, virtual event for animal advocates. It all happens on September 10, 2026, and we can’t wait to bring the community together again. The day features short, high-impact presentations with live Q&As, interactive breakout sessions, and a keynote from Taylison Santos of the Fórum Nacional de Proteção e Defesa Animal. There’s more to come: we’ll release the full schedule by the end of the month, so stay tuned for the complete lineup. In the meantime, register today to save your spot!

Fish Welfare Initiative Updates
- Satellite-based water quality monitoring: After two years of extensive effort, we have failed to develop sufficiently accurate technology, and are thus pausing development on this intervention for now.
- Water quality ranges updates: We recently conducted a literature review of the ideal water quality ranges for Indian major carps, and made slight changes to our standards.
- Hiring: We are likely going to be hiring for an entry-level operations associate shortly. We think an EA-minded recent graduate could be a good fit for this role. We are favoring applicants in Asia, but wherever you are based if you think you could be a good fit we encourage you to reach out.

Caption: Our staff member Chandu (right) pictured with a farmer in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India. This farmer recently enrolled in our farm program, through which we will work with him to improve water quality and maintain a stocking density cap.
