AI governance tracker of each country per region

By Alix Ramillon @ 2024-07-24T17:39 (+16)

The following document provides a provisional model of the current AI policies of each country, divided by region (July 2024) as part of my BlueDot Impact Project. It is organized according to four factors that I deemed important to include in the analysis of the information that I found based on the Global AI regulation tracker and completed through additional research.  https://www.techieray.com/GlobalAIRegulationTracker. These include:

  1. Regulation Status and if the approach is based on Innovation or Regulation
  2. Type of policy lever used (Federal R&D spending, Export controls etc..) and which ‘AI triad’ is put forward - algorithm, data, computing power
  3. Type of governance: Organizational governance (data privacy, ethics, accountability), Case governance (healthcare, finance, transportation), Model governance (design, training, deployment AI models).
  4. What actors and scale (regional, national, international)

Please note that although this list seeks to be as exhaustive as possible, it may contain some errors and/ or updated information. My aim is to be able to keep track of new legislations/ decisions and update the table entries as often and precisely as possible.

Notes: NA = Information non-available/ released

Hey Alix! Thanks so much for the post, it's an amazing recount of all the information about the state of AI regulation, and I appreciate it a lot!

I really want to make an easy-to-use website for people that aren't familiar with AI safety to understand the state of AI regulation (something like the regulation tracker you linked but with another user in mind). Would you mind if I used the information from this post for this? I'll be sure to link everything and give you credits :)

Also, I'd love to be able to meet up to chat about this a bit more!! :) Let me know

SummaryBot @ 2024-07-25T14:48 (+1)

Executive summary: This document provides a comprehensive overview of current AI policies and regulations across countries worldwide, organized by region and analyzing key factors like regulation status, policy levers, governance types, and involved actors.

Key points:

  1. Regulation approaches vary from restrictive to innovative, with many countries still developing AI-specific laws.
  2. Common policy levers focus on data, algorithms, and computing power within the "AI triad".
  3. Governance types include organizational (e.g. ethics, privacy), case-specific (e.g. healthcare, finance), and model governance (design, training, deployment).
