I'm going to run an experiment with my coaching as gift economy for EA's. Here's why

So I recently started a coaching practice and I've decided to run an experiment.

Gift economy is new to me in practice but something I really like the idea of. Basically, I offer my coaching freely as a gift with no expectations of something in return. If, then, you genuinely feel like giving something back, you can. And I won't tell you how much, but let you check in how much you'd be happy to give.

That means, not pressured by guilt or obligation or not wanting to offend. But what genuinely feels right to give.

I love the idea of this, because I have myself invested a lot of money in therapy and coaching (15K+ $ over 4 years, as a student).

And I'm happy I did. But honestly, about 50% of it still feels "wasted", because I did not get that much value from it.

I would have done a lot more if costs were not a barrier for me. It's always been on/off some months at a time.

At the same time, I felt stress and pressure to really get something out of each session because they were so expensive and when I didn't, I would quickly feel resentment towards the person I was working with.

It also made me not want to shift around too much with different people, which made me stick with some I was not compatible with for too long, ironically wasting some of the precious money I was trying to save.

I don't want to do that to others. I want it to feel open and pressure free. And I don't want cost to be a barrier for people to get support.

One of the reasons I can do this is:

This is not my main income

Therefore, I am not dependent on people paying me (which means you can also be guilt free).

Another reason I want to do this is because it raises my own impact.

If I can help people who do good work improve just a little bit, that's great news! And besides, I really love working with EA's. They are some of the smartest, most well-reflected and inspiring people I meet.
